Towards Performance Monitoring of an Intelligent Lower Leg Orthosis
نویسندگان
چکیده
An intelligent orthosis for knee and ankle joints functional compensation during walking and daily activities is developed in the frame of the Gait project. Such a device can be worn by patients with an abnormal gait caused by muscle weakness at neurological and muscular diseases, to provide safety and walking pattern improvement, while providing a means for biomechanical monitoring during activities of daily living. The paper presents the approach towards data monitoring for biomechanical evaluation at different scenarios and for a variety of applications.

Neuromechanical adaptation to hopping with an elastic ankle-foot orthosis.
When humans hop or run on different surfaces, they adjust their effective leg stiffness to offset changes in surface stiffness. As a result, the overall stiffness of the leg-surface series combination remains independent of surface stiffness. The purpose of this study was to determine whether humans make a similar adjustment when springs are placed in parallel with the leg via a lower limb orth...
متن کاملBiologically-Inspired Control Architecture for an Upper Limb, Intelligent Robotic Orthosis
This paper describes a biologically inspired control architecture for the McKibben actuated limbs of a humanoid robot and its application in an upper limb, intelligent robotic orthosis. The antagonistically driven joints are actuated using a biological control model. This model is observed in the measurement of human muscle elctromyograms (EMG) during reaching movements in the vertical plane. T...
متن کاملHuman Activity Recognition for an Intelligent Knee Orthosis
This paper investigates the possibility to classify isolated human activities from biosignal sensors integrated into a knee orthosis. An intelligent orthosis that is capable to recognize its wearers activity would be able to adapt itself to the users situation for enhanced comfort. We use a setup with three modalities: accelerometry, electromyography and goniometry to measure leg motion and mus...
متن کاملNewly designed computer controlled knee-ankle-foot orthosis (Intelligent Orthosis).
The authors have developed a knee-ankle-foot orthosis with a joint unit that controls knee movements using a microcomputer (Intelligent Orthosis). The Intelligent Orthosis was applied to normal subjects and patients, and gait analysis was performed. In the gait cycle, the ratio of the stance phase to the swing phase was less in gait with the knee locked using a knee-ankle-foot orthosis than in ...
متن کاملThe influence of an ankle foot orthosis on the percentage of weight loading during standing tasks in stroke patients
[Purpose] The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of an ankle foot orthosis on weight-bearing abilities of stroke patients by comparing weight loading during performance of tasks in various standing positions on the affected side. [Subjects and Methods] This study was performed with 16 stroke patients. To measure the weight loading value and percentage of weight loading in affected...
